His Divine Grace Mahamandaleshwar Mahant Krsna Balaram Swami | Guru

The Appearance and history of His Divine Grace Mahamandaleshwar Mahant Sri Krsna Balaram Swami Maharaja

We first of all offer our most humble obeisance to the lotus feet of our gurudev His Divine Grace Mahamandalaeshwar Mahant Sri Krsna Balarama Swami Maharaja.

Rarely in this world are we blessed with divine revelation. But when we are witnessing such a great historical event we must try to the best of our ability to tell the world. Even though we are not worthy, still we are telling all, who must hear about this marvelous event.

We are speaking about our Gurudev. We affectionately call our Gurudeva Swamiji. Swamiji appeared in the beloved land of Krishna in Nanda Gram near the Krishna Balarama temple on the auspicious Rathayatra day. At this time this was the only Krishna Balarama temple in the Vrindaban area. Swamiji’s Father was a highly respected Srotreya Brahmana in the Vrindaban area. Swamiji’s family lineage is known as the Khajiri Dynasty, with a history coming down from ancient times and a direct lineage coming to us from Lord Brahma Himself. This in itself shows the pureness of our Gurudeva’s appearance. Besides Divine birth, our Gurudeva, by His father and mothers own example was shown and taught the Vaishnava etiquettes and the marvelous dealings with others that only a Vrijabasi can exhibit. Swamiji has the love of God and fellow man that His divine, pure parents instilled in Him from a very early age. All this in itself is enough to qualify our Gurudeva as Guru for the whole universe. But the Lord had intentions for our Gurudev to preach to the world.

At a very young and tender age, our Guru was enrolled in the renowned Nimbarka Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya College where he lived and studied continuously for eight years, having an actual Gurukula education and life. Here Swamiji became top in His class, actually helping the teachers teach on occasion. This kind of Sanskrit education is rare indeed. Our Gurudeva’s thorough academic Sanskrit education and intimate and natural vrijabasi love of Devanagari is beyond the materially mundane. Lord Chaitanya is great and merciful to us so in His plan to save the world, our Lord arranged for Gurudeva to learn English so that we, on the mundane plane, can get a glimpse of the beautiful pastimes of Krishna revealed to us from the most loving view of a Resident of Vrindaban.

How wonderful is the Lord that He arranged for our Gurudev through the most blessed Ananda Maharaja to meet His god brother, our grand Guru A.C. Bhaktivedanta Srila Prabhupada Swami. Ananda Maharaja is beyond reproach as a pure Brahman Vaishnava who recognized who our Gurudeva was and wanting to help Srila Prabhupada, His god brother and intentionally introduced My Gurudeva to Him. This is a divine arrangement that only the unfortunate cannot understand. We thank the Lord again and again for His mercy upon us for this event. Srila Prabhupada Himself exclaimed that our Gurudev did not need a Guru, for He was already Guru. But to keep the norm, Swamiji insisted on initiation. Srila Prabhupada of course conceded, chanting three full rounds on Swamiji’s Japa Mala, the only disciple He ever did this for. Srila Prabhupada named our Gurudeva Krishna Balarama. It is obvious why. Living in thatched huts, our Gurudev lived with Ananda Maharaja and other ISKCON devotees on the future site of the Krishna Balarama temple, even against the desire of His parents, until they met Srila Prabhupada themselves by the insistence of our Gurudev. Afterwards they knew that this was a great pure soul and that their son, a very high class Brahmana, was in the right place.

Swamiji worked hard for His Guru, showing us by example how to serve Guru, collecting donations for the future Krishna Balarama temple and preaching about the glories of God and His Guru. As time went on, many of Swamiji’s god brothers became envious of Him and started scheming against our Gurudeva. But our Gurudeva persevered through the persecutions because a true Vaishnava serves His Guru no matter what. One day Srila Prabhupada, knowing through His divine vision that our Gurudeva was destined to preach outside of Vrindaban, instructed our Gurudeva to preach to the world. No one attached to Vrindaban wants to leave Krishna’s homeland. This is hard for us, the hardhearted, to understand, but for the pure residents of Vrindaban this is not easy. No Vrijabasi before this time has ever desired to leave Vraja. But by our Guru’s example, He left to fulfill His Guru’s desire to spread the love of God to the most unfortunate souls of Kali Yuga. Being sent to many parts of the world, our Gurudeva preached extensively. As time went on the persecutions against our Guru increased.

After Swamiji’s Guru ascended into the spiritual world, Swamiji tried to help His god brothers adjust. For the western devotees it is hard to accept corrective criticisms, and so they misunderstood our Gurudeva , who only wanted to stay in His Guru’s movement and help His god brothers improve. With this in mind, Swamiji put forth His first book, Ekadasi : The Day of Lord Hari. It was very popular and helped many devotees. Next, Our Gurudeva wrote the Vaishnava kantha- hara. A monumental work in its undertaking, but unfortunately, Swamiji’s god brothers misedited this work. He is now having it reedited. Our Gurudeva lectured everywhere He went and He was becoming more and more popular. Unfortunately Swamiji’s Godbrothers became envious and made it intolerable for Swamiji to stay in ISKCON.

Reluctantly Our Guru left the movement . Wanting to fulfill His Spiritual Masters desire to preach, he embarked on this mission by starting the movement Bhagavat Dharma Samaj. This movement has been very successful with disciples worldwide. Seeing the extensive misediting of his Gurus books, Swamiji took on the voluminous work of translating the Srimad Bhagavat Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, very carefully keeping the works in line with Vaishnava original philosophy. Swamijis is now a very prolific writer working Day and Night to preach the Vaishnava philosophy the true and right way. Building the Sri Sri Radha Govinda Red stone Temple Swamiji has also fulfilled another of His Gurus desire. The world will come to know our Guru for His extraordinary mission. All glories to our Gurudeva.
