Please now describe the Ekādaśī of the dark fortnight of the month of Vaisākha [April-May]\, including its specific merits and influence.” \nLord Śrī Kṛṣṇa replied\, “O King\, in this world and the next\, the most auspicious and magnanimous Ekādaśī is Varūthinī Ekādaśī\, which occurs during the dark fortnight of the month of Vaisākha. Whoever observes a complete fast on this sacred day has his sins completely removed\, obtains continuous happiness\, and achieves all good fortune. Fasting on Varūthinī Ekādaśī makes even an unfortunate woman fortunate. Upon anyone who observes it\, this Ekādaśī bestows material enjoyment in this life and liberation after death. Please hear Me attentively. \n“Lord Rāmacandra asked Vasiṣṭha Muni\, ‘O great sage\, I would like to hear about the best of all fasting days—that day which destroys all kinds of sins and sorrows. I have suffered long enough in separation from My dear Sitā\, and so I wish to hear from you about how My suffering can be ended.’ \n“The sage Vasiṣṭha replied\, ‘O Lord Rāma\, O You whose intelligence is so keen\, simply by remembering Your name one can cross the ocean of this material world. DESCRIPTION:FASTING FROM ALL GRAINS AND BEANS AND BREAKING FAST ON THE NEXT DAY. \nThe Agama Sastra states\, VAISNAVAIR NA TU KARTAVYA SMARAVIDDHA CHATURSADI\, Vaisnavas should not observe Nrsimha Chaturdasi fast on that day if that day is combined with the previous day (i.e. mixed with\ntrayodasi). Vaisnavas should observe only the pure and unmixed chaturdasi fast. \n  tava kara-kamala-vare nakham adbhuta-sringam\ndalita-hiranyakasipu-tanu-bhringam\nkesava dhrita-narahari-rupa jaya jagadisa hare \nO Lord Kesava\, O Lord of the Universe\, O remover of miseries of Your devotees\, all glories to You. You had adopted a form of half-lion and half man and killed the beelike demon Hiranyakasipu by using the spectacular nails on Your lotus hands. This act is so surprising because the bee usually tears at the heart of a lotus\, whereas in this instance You ripped the bee like Hiranyakasipu with Your lotus petal-like hands.
