Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahāprabhu (1486-1534), the most merciful incarnation of Lord Kṛṣṇa, appeared in His devotee form in order to teach others how to become real devotees of Lord Kṛṣṇa and to teach the true mood of worshipping Him, Thus, God Himself came in the form of a devotee in order to teach the sincere souls how to perform devotional service that will please Him. He taught and propagated achintyabhedābheda (Inconceivably simultaneously one and different) philosophy. No one can defeat God, nor can anyone become equal to or surpass Him in any way. That is why no one is able to present a philosophy that matches the philosophy of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. In this tradition, Śrī Baladeva Vidyābhūṣaṇa presented the Govindabhāṣya commentary on the Vedānta Sūtra. From the time of the Govindabhāṣya commentary, the Chaitanya Sampradaya has been known as the Gauḍīya Sampradaya.
The Bhagavad Gītā is accepted in our Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavism as the primary guidebook on the spiritual path. Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavas do not accept anything to be authentic unless it is emphatically mentioned in the ancient Vedic scriptures written five thousand years ago. That is why Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavas are considered to possess fine intelligence. As stated in Srimad Bhagavatam, saṁkīrtanaḥ-prāyair yajanti hi sumedhasaḥ, “Those who worship Lord Kṛṣṇa by chanting His holy names have the finest intelligence.” The Chaitanya Charitāmīta also states, kṛṣṇa je bhaje sei boḍo chatur, “Those who follow the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava tradition and chant the holy names of Lord Kṛṣṇa are said to be the most intelligent people in human society.” No Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava will ever accept anyone to be God unless the name of that person and activities are openly mentioned in the Vedic scriptures written in Sanskrit by Śrīla Vyāsadeva, the author of the Vedānta philosophy. The Vedic scriptures are the newspapers of God that predict about God’s appearance on this earth. Śrīla Vyāsadeva appeared five thousand years ago and predicted the name of Lord Chaitanya Mahāprabhu in his writings, stating that Lord Chaitanya Mahāprabhu is Lord Kṛṣṇa Himself. That is why Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavas worship and follow Lord Chaitanya Mahāprabhu as God.
